A precise measurement can describe one aspect of jadeite. It cannot express the whole character of the material.
This Feiyuehui Studios study examines why the familiar language of diamond grading does not translate directly into a complete jadeite assessment. Weight and color names are useful starting points, not final judgments.
Internal features, translucency and thickness must be read in relation to one another. Two pieces with similar measurements can still differ substantially.
The film brings the focus back to the combination of color, texture, structure, proportion and light. Exceptional quality lies in how those qualities coexist.

Unlike diamonds, jadeite has no universally accepted grading system equivalent to the 4Cs.
Carat weight measures weight—it does not determine jadeite quality. “Imperial Green” describes an exceptional color, but it is not a complete quality grade. Internal features are assessed by how they affect the material rather than simply being counted, while translucency must always be considered together with thickness.
This is why two pieces of jadeite with similar dimensions or color descriptions may differ profoundly in quality.
Fine jadeite is judged through the interaction of color, translucency, texture, structure, thickness, proportion, and light. No single measurement can represent the material as a whole.
Fine jadeite is not defined by one perfect number. Its rarity lies in how many exceptional qualities nature put together.
